Aftercare
Essential information for maintaining your beautiful lash extensions.
Why Aftercare Matters
The longevity of your eyelash extensions is largely a direct result of how you turn up for your full set and infill appointments. The eyelash adhesive will NOT adhere properly to lashes that have not been properly cleaned.
It is imperative that you maintain good hygiene with your lashes for two reasons:
Prevent Infection
Good hygiene will limit any makeup, dead skin, dirt/bacteria build up at the base of your extensions and therefore will help to prevent bacterial infection.
Longer Lasting Extensions
Build up of materials will start to attack the glue bond and therefore the extensions will come off prematurely. Keep them clean for longer wear!
Daily Cleaning Routine
I recommend that you wash your lashes DAILY and if you wear more makeup than the average person you may want to increase this to twice a day.
Washing your extensions provides a squeaky clean surface for the glue bond and a clean bond will always be a stronger bond.
Important: Please ensure that you do not wear mascara/eyeliner on the day of your full set appointment as traces of makeup residue can still be present on the lashes even after the most thorough cleaning.
Products to Avoid
Many facial cleansers and beauty products contain ingredients which attack the glue bond and break it down, meaning that you won't get the most wear out of your extensions without using the correct products.
Eyelash extension glue is prone to breaking down with ingredients that contain:
- Oils and waxy substances (such as moisturisers)
- Glycerine/glycol
- Many products claiming to be 'oil free' still contain glycerine
The ONLY cleanser that should be used on your eyes is one specifically designed for eyelash extensions, which won't breakdown your glue or irritate your eyes.
Your Consultation
At your consultation and patch test appointment I will run through in detail exactly how to wash your extensions and with what products that are safe for your eyes.
Once you have grasped the basics of what works well with your extensions and you stick to a daily cleaning routine, then you will begin to fully enjoy your extensions and you will begin to realise that the cleaner they are, the longer they will last for you!
Please rest assured that if you do have any questions I will be happy to answer anything on the day of your patch test and consultation. I will be able to look at your natural eyelashes in more detail and help you make the correct choice of extensions that won't interfere with the growth of your natural lashes.
